Is there sales tax on gold and silver in Canada?

No, for investment-grade bullion. Gold and platinum refined to at least 99.5% and silver to at least 99.9%, in bar, ingot, coin or wafer form, are "precious metals" under the Excise Tax Act, and a sale of precious metal is an exempt financial service — so no GST or HST is charged anywhere in Canada, and British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Quebec exempt it from their provincial taxes on the same definition. Palladium, anything below those purities, and coins sold as collectibles are taxed at the full rate for the province.
