Who runs GoldSilverPortfolio
One person builds and runs GoldSilverPortfolio. This page says who he is, why the site exists, how it is paid and what happens to what you enter.
Daniel Stewart
Founder, based in Canada
I’m Daniel. I built GoldSilverPortfolio and I run it on my own, from Canada. I hold precious metals myself.
The site began as a free allocation calculator, made to answer what a dealer’s calculator does not: how much of a portfolio belongs in metals, how to split it between gold and silver, which form to hold it in, and what premiums and taxes do to the return. It has since grown into a record of what you own, with the tools and the reading around it.
Why it exists
Most precious-metals sites are one of two kinds. A dealer’s site is built to sell metal. A price site shows a chart and stops there. Neither keeps your own record: what you bought, what you paid, what it is worth today and what a sale would mean for tax.
GoldSilverPortfolio keeps that record and puts calculators, market data and plain-English education beside it. It does not predict prices and it does not tell anyone to buy or sell. Costs, premiums, taxes and records can be known, so those are what it works on.
What it is not
GoldSilverPortfolio is not a broker, a dealer, a fund or a financial adviser. It does not sell metal, and it never holds your metal or the money you invest. Nothing on the site is tax, legal or investment advice.
How it is paid
The site is free to use, with or without an account. TaxStack, an optional subscription, is the only paid part.
Two links can also earn the site a commission, at no extra cost to you: an affiliate link to Silver Gold Bull, a bullion dealer, and a referral link to Wealthsimple, a brokerage. The other dealers in the dealer comparison are listed with plain links.
What happens to what you enter
You can keep a record and use every calculator without an account. Without one, your holdings stay in your browser. A free account keeps the record on every device, and you can export it to CSV or PDF.
How the numbers are checked
The methodology page lists where the prices and exchange rates come from and shows how TaxStack works out what you paid, your profit or loss and an estimate of the tax, rule by rule. Each rule links to its official source, so you or your accountant can check every step.
These methods have not been reviewed by a CPA.
